Free Jazz with Fred features Modal, Avant-Garde and other experiments in Jazz. This music has always been challenging for the listener, thus limiting its commercial appeal. Despite its importance, free jazz has largely been ignored by corporate money-driven jazz radio. It has become a cult music with a large underground following. It is absolutely necessary that community radio programmers, like myself, dedicate themselves to bringing this music to its audience.
The radio show provides an opportunity to hear the music, and this site and its blog will complement the show with articles and information about the music and the musicians who perform it.
